SEIU Local 500 endorses Ashwani Jain,

Democratic candidate for Montgomery County Council, At-Large Seat

Silver Spring, Md. (February 26, 2018) – SEIU Local 500 of Maryland and Washington D.C. has endorsed Ashwani Jain for the Montgomery County Council At-Large. For over 50 years, SEIU Local 500 has represented supporting service employees in the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) system. The union boasts 12,000 local members and is the largest and fastest growing Union local in Montgomery County.

“One of the first things that Ashwani will tell you is that he was born and raised in Montgomery County. The next thing he will tell you is that he is a proud graduate of the Montgomery County Public School system. He understands the crucial role played by school employees and wants paraeducators and other MCPS employees to be partners in making sure every child in Montgomery County gets a world class education,” said Merle Cuttitta, President of SEIU Local 500.

“I am deeply honored to receive the endorsement of SEIU Local 500 for my candidacy of Montgomery County Council At-Large. I stand proud with its 12,000 local members working to advance MoCo’s education system for all our children,” said Ashwani Jain.

In addition to SEIU Local 500, Jain has also been endorsed by former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Julián Castro, his political action committee Opportunity First, recently retired 40-year MCPS teacher John Keller of Bethesda, immediate past president of the Woman’s Democratic Club of Montgomery County Linda Kolko of Takoma Park; Democratic Activist Lisa Fuller of North Potomac; along with others for the Montgomery County Council, At-Large seat.
